The first stage of the migration from CHIEF to the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) is complete. Second stage (exports) is just around the corner with the planned permanent switch-off of CHIEF now scheduled for the end of November 2023.
From 30 September 2022, traders were no longer be able to file import declarations using CHIEF. There were some ‘delayed transitions’ if certain criteria was met, but for the most part, migration to CDS from CHIEF took place. At VARTAN, we’ve been working with customers to help them navigate error codes and in some cases, uncovering longer term issues with their entries costing their business £££s.
With export declarations following in November 2023, now is a critical time for all businesses to continue working on getting familiar with CDS and preparing for full CHIEF switch off early next year when export declarations go live. Being unprepared is not an option!
